It's a global exchange infrastructure company — the identity federation, listing exchange, trade intelligence, offer management, and checkout orchestration APIs that let ecommerce platforms, marketplaces, thrift stores, consignment stores, classifieds platforms, and social commerce ecosystems offer barter and trade commerce, while keeping full ownership of payments, taxes, commissions, fulfillment, shipping, customer relationships, and compliance.

The comparison we come back to most is Stripe: a company that made payments programmable for everyone else, without becoming a bank itself. TBBN is trying to do the same thing for trade — make barter and trade-based commerce a feature any platform can add, without any of them having to become a matching engine, a negotiation system, or a cross-platform identity network from scratch.

TBBN Exchange — the consumer-facing directory and trading experience at tbbnetwork.com — is simply the first customer of these APIs, built to prove they work at real volume and to demonstrate the network effect a second, third, and hundredth merchant benefits from. It is not the product; the infrastructure is.
